                  Richard Kim from Walnut High School took 1st Place in State Qualifiers

Richard Kim from Walnut High School won the first place in Public Forum Debate at the State Qualifier Tournament held March 7 at Shurr High School in Montebello. This tournament was to determine which teams would be qualifying for the State Finals.

Richard Kim is attending the state finals in Culver City on April 24-27 as a representative of the Southern California Debate League. Richard Kim and his partner Eric Mao debated the topic ¡°No Child Left behind Act¡± at the tournament and won all rounds, earning them a debate champion¡¯s trophy. It¡¯s a first time that a student from Walnut High School is chosen as a representative of the Southern California Debate League. This tournament was not Richard Kim¡¯s first time victory. He had won first place at the Southern California High School Debate competitions held fall of 2008 and spring of 2009. Also he also earned the best speaker award, gold award and top 10 awards from the IVC Debate Competition.
